1984 Volvo 3 40 with a manual transmission and low mileage. Just look at that those seats! And yes, there are rear louvres, sadly not with a clear picture. The car lived in northern Sweden (where they don't salt the roads) until 2013, so no rust.

That is one pretty Volvo.

NP would be $2,000 or less. I would pay a little more though, because this is suh-weet.

RWD too. It's a bit of a grandpa car, but this one is kind of charming.

I know a guy who has one of these with a few
Mods in the works. He imported it in, I want to say '12, and he's been slowly turning it into the fastest 340 in north America... Not that there are that many 340s in north America, but he's doing serious work on that thing... I've always kinda wanted one of these since I found out they were rear transaxle, like an Alfetta GTV. Sadly they're very heavy and cursed with poor suspension geometry...(hence the major mods I speak of for the one I know...) this one is VERY clean... The one I know is both an older car, and not this clean (although also rust-free) I think he paid like $1200 for the car and then whatever it costs to import.

I was toying with the idea of shipping this to the US, getting it registered there and then just put it on Ebay. It's almost too nice for heavily modifying, there are loads of 340s left but none are this clean. This beige colored interior is new to me too, most are in some kind of grey tone.
And heavy? It's 300 kg (660 lbs) less than a 240 sedan from the same year. Dry weight (so without driver and fluids) is 920 or so kg (2000 lbs)

That is pretty nice. We had plenty of these at some point. Now they are getting rare. My friend still uses one as a winter car. Some have small Renault engines and some do have bigger Volvo engine. The first model (343) had belt type CVT transmission sourced from the late DAF that Volvo had bought. It is almost as fast in reverse gear too and made some silly reverse speed and distance records.
Due to that fact the floorpan has space for the CVT gearbox the later models have ridiculous amount of unused space underneath the car because the gearbox was relocated back to traditional space.
In Finland the nickname for the 340 Volvos is "pig's head Volvo".
The rust free cars from Lapland is partially a myth. The most rusty car that I ever bought was an Opel that I fetched from Finnish Lapland. It had huge patches constructed from glass fiber that were well hidden under nice paint.

Surely that's not worth shipping? I saw an ultra-clean, ultra-low-miles one on Ebay UK not long ago sell for under £1k.
Even this one made under £5k before the auctioneer's premium.

Well, the problem was that it was an Opel :)
Anyway, the Volvo 340 was actually developed by DAF. It was almost ready for production when Volvo bought the car segment of DAF. The CVT stayed an option on the Renault engines the entire production run. I believe the versions with the red block Volvo engine were called 360.

It all depends on demand. Value in the Europe versus value in the US isn't equal, it remains a gamble. And to be honest, I consider the one I posted far more charming than that 132 mile example.

Well, it was a Rekord-D which was notorious model for its rust issues.
I think that here the face lifted model wasn't sold much with a CVT.

Of course it would go for more over there, but I'm surprised there's a big uplift after the cost of shipping.

I honestly don't know. Like I said, it's a gamble. I probably won't buy it, although it's an auction with a reserve the seller has the 'buy it now' at €4500, which is way too much (for me, for this car).

Oh, I see. I was assuming it would sell for maybe 10-20% of that, at which point the cost of shipping would be much higher than the cost of the car.

The auction ended. The highest bid was, wait for it..., € 2232 . It didn't sell as it didn't meet the reserve.
